Androscoggin Valley Hospital Adds Advanced 3D and 4D Ultrasound with Acquisition of Sound Medical Imaging

Berlin, NH, August 1, 2007 - Androscoggin Valley Hospital now offers North Country patients access to the most advanced medical ultrasound imaging technology available today, following the hospital's acquisition of Sound Medical Imaging of Conway, New Hampshire.

"Today's addition of 3D and 4D ultrasound technology gives our doctors a powerful new tool for diagnosing a wide array of medical conditions," said Russell G. Keene, Chief Executive Officer at AVH, "and it makes the North Country's most comprehensive medical imaging department even stronger."

Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers Mark Cartier and Alexandra Baker provide high-resolution 3D pictures and 4D videos in an open, radiation-free and patient-friendly environment. They bring local roots and over 30 years combined experience to their positions on staff at AVH.

For patients of all ages, the new ultrasound can perform highly detailed scans for pregnancy conditions, the abdominal area, breast tissue, the cardiovascular system, muscles, joints, tendons and more. According to Wayne Couture, Director of Imaging Services at AVH, "the new ultrasound joins the North Country's strongest medical imaging department alongside our traditional ultrasound, cardiac imaging, MRI and a 16-slice CT scanner. Doctors will be able to see more, and be more effective, than ever before."

AVH's new ultrasound department is the only one in the North Country to be accredited by the American College of Radiology. Services are available at AVH and in the Sound Medical Imaging offices on 24 Pleasant Street in Conway.
